Star studded line-up for Sheene trophy
The stars will be out in force for this year’s Goodwood Revival, as the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy returns.
This year’s Revival, taking place from 16-18 September, sees motorcycles from the 1960s returning after a one-year gap to do battle through the sweeping curves of the Goodwood Motor Circuit, with a wealth of star riders to put them through their paces.
Bikes lining up on the grid will include a home-grown favourites such as Manx Nortons and Matchless G50s, competing with overseas exotica manufacturers such as Ducati, BMW, MV Augusta and Gilera.
These sports bikes from yesteryear will be ridden by many top names from the past and present, including Trevor Nation, Michael Rutter, Chas Mortimer, Sean Emmett, James Haydon, Stan Woods and plus father and son Paul and Scott Smart, brother-in-law and nephew of the late Barry Sheene, after whom the race is named.
As with previous Revivals, there will be one race on Saturday and another on Sunday, with the result decided by aggregate timing. Each owner-rider will be paired up with a professional racer, and both will ride in each race, changing over in the pits around half distance. The Le Mans-style running start will also be a feature which is certain to cause drama and excitement once again, for both spectators and competitors alike.
