Stoner scores Motegi pole

Casey Stoner has achieved his tenth pole position of the 2011 season at the Japanese Motegi circuit today, as the season winds towards the final few rounds.

Despite his best advances, Stoner was able to edge out main challenger Jorge Lorenzo for the privilege of a pole position start, as Lorenzo settled in second place. The final front row starting position went the way of Andrea Dovizioso, with two of the three Repsol Honda machines settling on the front row of the grid.

Dani Pedrosa just missed out on a front row start, as the third Repsol Honda rider secured the fourth fastest time. Alongside him on the second row will be Ben Spies, with theĀ  Yamaha rider recovering from illness to secure a fifth place start. Marco Simoncelli is set to complete the second row of the grid in sixth place.

Seventh place went the way of Valentino Rossi, as Alvaro Bautista narrowly missed out and had to settle for an eighth place start. Hector Barbera and Nicky Hayden will complete the top ten in ninth and tenth place, respectively.

A grid of nineteen riders will see Kousuke Akiyoshi for the LCR Honda team, Damian Cudling for the Pramac Racing Team and Shinichi Ito for the Honda Racing Team join the grid this weekend.
