JT to make up for Donington debacle
James Toseland is looking to make amends for last year’s Donington Park disaster at this years British Grand Prix as he fights to keep his place in next season’s championship.
The Yorkshire-born rider suffered a catastrophic home Grand Prix last season, crashing out on the first corner to the disappointment of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Toseland managed to pick himself up from that fall but could only ride his damaged Yamaha to a 17th place finish.
This year Toseland’s fortunes have remained equally down with only one top-six finish so far this season and a high-profile fall-out with teammate Colin Edwards but the former World Superbikes champion has praised the supporters who have stuck by him.
“The support of the British fans is humbling and they have stuck with me through a very difficult year,” he said.
“I’ve not been that consistent this season, so I want to get a good result at Donington to build up some momentum for the rest of the season.
“I’m looking forward to my home race now at Donington Park and this top ten has given me a bit of a boost. I’ll be looking to make amends for the disappointment of last year at the British GP and giving it my all.”
Toseland has also admitted that he is riding for his future in MotoGP at Donington, with mounting speculation that Yamaha World Superbike rider Ben Spies will be joining the Tech 3 team in the near future.
But Toseland has remained defiant, claiming that he won’t be giving up his bike without a fight.
“This country deserves a MotoGP rider. I believe I can still be competitive so it could be very important for my future,” he told BBC Sport.
“If somebody wants my ride they’ll have to prise my fingers off the bars.”
