TTXGP plans gather pace
Britain will have its own TTXGP championship in 2010 after three dates were pencilled in for the U.K. Championship series in 2010.
TTXGP, which made its debut at the Isle of Man TT earlier this year, looks set to take off in 2010 with championships in the UK and USA already planned as well as the a FIM sanctioned e-Power International Series, which has four dates planned, as well as the TTXGP’s continued presence at the 2010 TT.
Three dates are planned for a UK championship, taking place at Cadwell Park on July 3 and 4; Snetterton on, July 17 and 18; and Castle Combe on September 11 2010.
There has also been a suggestion that a “Champions League” format could be introduced, with the best teams from the UK, US and TT events racing head-to-head in November, although those plans have yet to be finalised.
“We are delighted to get these British events off the ground and it is thanks to all those involved who have worked hard to make this happen,” said Azhar Hussain, founder of the TTXGP.
“A new generation of motorsport requires a new way of thinking – it needs to be flexible and adapt at any given moment to change. It needs blind belief and utter commitment to push it over the line. It is outstanding to partner with organizations like the ACU and BMF who not only have the willingness to move with us but also the practical ability to put TTXGP UK in motion.”
The UK event has been sanctioned by the Auto Cycle Union, the national governing body for motorcycle racing in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) and the series is also supported by the British Motorcyclists Federation.
“The ACU believes that the development of this new and innovative branch of motorcycle racing will help secure the future of sport for the next 100 years,” claimed Dave Luscombe of the ACU.
Christopher Hodder of the British Motorcyclists Federation added, “This series will really show that electric motorcycling is the future.”
