2010 World and British Enduro Championships dominated by Metzeler

When it comes to the tyre of choice in this year’s Enduro Championships, both domestic and international, there is a clear cut favourite in form of Metzeler tyres, who dominate in all three classes across the world Enduro biking stage.

Manxman David Knight has dominated the British and World Enduro (WEC) scene this season with Metzeler tyres and has cemented his standing as one of the endure riding greats. As well as national and international victories, Night also performed particularly well in the sprint, beach and extreme events, which has just gone to show the difference having the right tyres can make, with Metzeler’s 6 day extreme proving to be up to the job for the harsh terrains.

It’s a significant result for Metzeler in the WEC classes, with eight out of the nine podium finishes so far have been achieved by Metzeler riders, which is yet further proof that the 6 Days Extreme tyre is king in the sport of endure, regardless of the motorcycle that is using them.

Knight said: ‘It’s a great feeling and a big relief to have wrapped up the Enduro 3 championship. After everything that happened last year to win another world title means a lot to me, probably more than winning my first two world championships. I always believed that I could do it. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to win this year, it never is, but I just kept working hard and staying positive. I have to say a big thanks to KTM, Metzeler, the Farioli team, my mechanic and all my sponsors, they all played a big part in helping me win this title.”

Mika Ahola also demonstrated the success of Metzeler with his fourth world title win in the E2 class for Honda. It’s been a successful run for KTM too with Ivan Cervantes and Toman Oldrati achieving second and third place in the E2 class, while multi-world champion came in a close second in the E1 Enduro Championship, with third place being scooped by Eero Remes. Across the board Metzeler took eight out of the nine top places, and that’s only taking into consideration the top three from each class!

Metzeler riders Tom Sagar (for Suzuki) and Daryl Bolter (for KTM) also gained success internationally, taking the championship titles in the E2 and E1 categories respectively.

David Knight continued to dominate in the UK domestics, picking up both the British Sprint and British Enduro championships, before topping off his spectacular run with a win at the Weston Beach Race where he finished a whole 8 minutes ahead of his closest rival.
