Another clean sweep for Bayliss
Australian Troy Bayliss dominated proceedings in Sunday’s World Superbike race at Brno, notching up two victories and increasing his chances of securing the WSB championship for the third time.
The Ducati rider extended his lead over nearest rival Max Neukirchner, who finished seventh and fifth over two races in the Czech Republic.
It was an Australian one-two in the first race, with Yamaha Motor Italia rider Troy Corser finishing just under one and a half seconds behind his fellow countryman.
Bayliss’ winning margin was narrower in the second race, as Ducati Xerox teammate Michel Fabrizio steered home his 1098 in second place, just under a second behind the series leader.
The double win takes Bayliss to 309 points, 79 of Neukirchner. The German will be hoping to claw his way back into contention in the next round which takes place at Brands Hatch on 3rd August.
It was Bayliss’ third clean sweep of the season and he was delighted with the dominant performance. He said, “Obviously I’m very happy the results. It’s really great for me in the championship, but today I rode two really good races.
“It’s been a while since I won and Brno has been up and down for me in the past so I’m happy to take a win. I was struggling a bit at the start to stay with everyone, but my bike just didn’t get any worse and I continually got to grips with it and got a better feel throughout the race and felt very at ease towards the end.”
