Bayliss ends comeback talk

Troy Bayliss has dismissed reports that he is in line for a return to World Superbikes, claiming that he “spoke too soon” when pressed on the issue during a Ducati testing event last month.

Bayliss, who retired from World Superbikes after winning the 2008 championship, appeared to hint at a possible return to superbikes after impressing during a Ducati test in Mugello, suggesting he may have retired from competition “too early”.

Bayliss has continued to race since quitting Superbikes, having stints in Australia’s V8 Supercars championship, and the 41-year old has been involved in unofficial testing for the Xerox Ducati team on a number of occasions.

But any hint that a return may be in the offing has been quashed by the Australian, who claimed that he was enjoying his retirement and has no intention of making a comeback, even as a wildcard.

“I spoke too soon,” he told GPOne.com. “Everything felt easy for me and I said that I wanted to comeback; I guess I started my own rumour. But when I tested here I found out that things weren’t going that good and we ended up going around in circles.

“That’s when it hit me and it was hard things like that that I didn’t miss about racing. That completely I changed my mind I don’t want to come back racing and I don’t want to do any wild cards. I’m retired and I’m happy.”
