Bayliss looking to end Donington misery

Troy Bayliss believes that he can finally break his Donington Park hoodoo on what will be his final Superbikes appearance on British tarmac.

Bayliss, who retires from World Superbikes at the end of the season, has an unenviable record at the East Midland’s circuit, having never won a WSB event at Donington.

The Australian has retired three times out of his last five race starts at the venue for this weekend’s European round, the last one after a fall that cost him the amputation of the little finger of his right hand, and his best ever result is a lowly ninth place finish in race two back in 2001.

Qualifying has also proved difficult for the Ducati rider, whose pole position last year was his only appearance on the front row in three previous attempts.

But the current championship leader believes that he can finally get the success that he so desperately craves this weekend and extend his current 82-point advantage over Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner.

“I’m feeling really good after the break and am looking forward to what is to be my last Superbike visit to England.

“Bearing that in mind, and after the disaster that was last year’s Donington race weekend, I’m even more determined to put in a good performance this time around.

“I’ve never got the results I hoped for at this track, for whatever reason. However, with the race taking place much later than it did last year, we hope the weather might be kinder to us and of course the fans are always fantastic so all in all I’m pretty positive in thinking that we’ll able to achieve some great results.”
