Biaggi claims Aprilia has the right package
Max Biaggi has claimed that his double victory in Portimao proves that his Aprilia RSV-4 offers much more than straight line speed, as he narrowly beat Leon Haslam to the line in both races this weekend.
Much has been made of the Aprilia’s straight line speed since the company entered World Superbikes last season and that was very much in evidence from the off on Sunday, with Biaggi storming off the line in the opening race to take an early lead and then getting a similarly strong start in race two.
But the Italian claims that the Alitalia Aprilia is more than a one-trick pony, claiming that the corner exit speed proves that the team have managed to develop the right all-round package.
“We had good speed down the straight today, but if you saw how fast we could exit the last corner then you would know it was not just the engine,” he claimed. “Our bike is fast but other bikes are also fast.”
Portimao represented Biaggi’s first ever WSB double to put him second in the standings, 16 points behind Leon Haslam.
“It is great to get my first double win in World Superbike,” he added. “The feeling is great as it is the first double win of anybody this year, so I feel confident that we have a good rhythm. We go to Valencia next and we will ask very much of ourselves there as well.”
