Biaggi lines up for 100th start

Max Biaggi will prepare for his 100th World Superbikes start this weekend at Silverstone this weekend but any talk of milestones has been pushed aside by the Italian as he looks to extend his lead in the rider’s championship.

The Alitalia Aprilia rider sits 68 points ahead of Leon Haslam at the top of the WSB standings, with five wins from the last six races and could take a giant step towards the championship this weekend by disappointing the home supporters.

And Biaggi took the time to praise his team for his performances so far, with Aprilia only in their second season in World Superbikes since rejoining the championship last season.

“To arrive at this stage of the season with a 68 point advantage over the nearest competitor is an astonishing result especially considering the fact that we are in our second year in the Championship with a completely new bike,” he said.

“Now that we are out front, we don’t want to let the opportunity slip through our fingers. We are earning every single result, considering the great work the team and I are doing. Silverstone is a track which is new to everyone. I think that right from the first practice laps we’ll be able to get a fairly good idea of the quality on the pitch.

“Our biggest worry is the bumps since the RSV4 doesn’t seem to digest them too well, but we also know how to operate. The races at Misano and the second race at Brno showed that our work pays of and the little problems are certainly not insurmountable obstacles. My goal is to be on top four.”
