Biaggi sets record top speed

Max Biaggi smashed the World Superbike all-time speed record in Friday’s free practice in Monza, posting a top speed of 326.9kph (203.13mph).

Biaggi was clocked in the speed trap at the end of Monza’s 1km pit straight as he posted the sixth fastest time during the free practice session.

It was also a good day for British rider Cal Crutchlow, who posted the fastest lap times in both free practice and qualifying practice in Italy.

The Yamaha rider posted a time of 1:44.577, two-tenths of a second faster than Assen double winner Jonathan Rea on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda.

BMW continued to make headway in qualifying practice, with first Ruben Xaus and then Troy Corser both lying at the top of the timesheets for a while. In the end, Corser set the fourth time fastest time, ahead of championship leader Leon Haslam .
