Blusens pull plug on Moto2 project

Blusens have reportedly cancelled their Moto2 project in protest at Dorna’s insistence on a single engine championship.

Blusens, one of the pioneers of the new Moto2 championship, have reportedly shelved their plans after Dorna chief Carmelo Ezpeleta revealed that the championship will run as a single-engine competition.

Moto2, which will replace the 250cc two-stroke championship in 2010, was intended to run without any engine or chassis restrictions but Ezpeleta confirmed the new proposal during a press conference in Jerez last weekend, announced as part of the sport’s cost-cutting programme.

He said at the time that all the members of the MSMA had unanimously agreed to table a bid for the Moto2 class to run a single engine rule. Moto2 was designed for 600cc four-stroke machines with productions engines but prototype chassis. As of yet, no decision has been made on which manufacturer will provide the new engines.

But Blusens, who have already tested their machine with a Honda engine, appear to have been angered by the decision.

The withdrawal could put Scott Redding’s future in doubt after a Blusens Moto2 ride was believed to have been earmarked for the Brit, and former 250GP and World Superbike winner Fonsi Nieto’s plans to enter a bike for the LaGlisse team in Spain, which would have ran with a Yamaha R6 engine, are also in doubt.
