Brands rounds moved in BSB calendar shake-up
Brands Hatch will not host the final round of the 2009 British Superbikes Championship after the new-look calendar was announced today.
The popular Oulton Park will host the season finale on October 11, as well as the May Bank Holiday race on Monday 4th, with the season getting underway at Brands Hatch Indy in April.
The championship will get underway on the shorter version of the Kent circuit on the weekend of April 10-13 after playing host to the season finale in 2008 whilst the Brands Hatch GP, which was due to host last year’s opening round before snow forced the race to be abandoned, has been moved to round eight in early August.
Brands Hatch lost the rights to the British round of the World Superbikes Championship following a contractual dispute between circuit owner John Palmer and WSB organisers and in response, the Brands GP will now take place on August 7-9 – the weekend that the circuit would have hosted the WSB event.
Series Director Stuart Higgs said: “We believe that we have the most competitive domestic Superbike championship in the world with the calibre of riders and machines already entered.
“And the new look calendar adds spice, with variation and a range of circuits that fully test the capabilities of all competitors.”
