Brivio fearful over losing Rossi

Yamaha boss Davide Brivio has admitted that he is fears losing Valentino Rossi to Formula One after the Italian’s impressive performance in a Ferrari test in Barcelona last week.

In what has become something of an annual PR event for Ferrari, Rossi got behind the wheel of the 2008 Ferrari F1 car in Barcelona, posting an impressive time of 1:21.900 -just 0.087slower than the pole-setting time posted by Kimi Raikkonen in the same car in 2008.

Intense speculation over a move to F1 has followed Rossi since 2006 but the Italian seemed to end that talk a few weeks ago by conceding that, when his Yamaha contract expires at the end of the season, he would be too old to make the switch. His performance in Barcelona however has made bosses in Maranello take notice and Brivio has admitted to his concern about losing his, and the sports, star man.

“I have to be worried about these excellent times because Valentino really could get the desire to change sport,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Rossi himself has yet to commit his future to the sport or the Yamaha and the Italian has revealed that he has already had an offer from Ducati for 2011.

“As of tomorrow my job is to ride a motorbike,” the 30-year-old the same paper after his Ferrari test.

“I’ll decide my future in a few months: I’ve also had an offer from Ducati. It’ll all be clear in a few months.”
