PROBLEMS DENY ROBINSON A RESULT AT SNETTERTON
JR Motosport team rider Jamie Robinson endured a weekend of mixed fortunes which culminated in engine problems robbing him of yet another points scoring finish in round two of the British Supersport Championship at Snetterton yesterday.
Riding the Yamaha R6, the 28 year old from Holmfirth worked hard during the weekend to overcame the suspension, brake and grip problems which hampered his progress in the previous round at Brands Hatch over Easter and whilst the team made significant progress in those departments, the super-fast straights of the Norfolk wartime airfield found the engine a little lacking in speed.
Robinson battled through qualifying to place himself on row five for Sunday’s race and made a good start but his hopes were short lived when he was forced wide at the end of the straight on the opening lap, necessitating an excursion up the slip road. He rejoined at the back of the field and started to claw his way back up the leaderboard and was in the all-important points scoring top 15 when the engine let go just three laps from home forcing him out:
“I felt that I was riding well but I was losing out big time on the long straights. We’ve got the chassis sorted which contributed to our problems at Brands but the engine was the problem this weekend. I could pass them into the corners but I’d get eaten on the straights and then it blew up. We’ve only got a week to turn things round for Oulton but already the engine is out already and we’ll be stronger there” said Robinson.
Team mate Paul Veazey upheld team honour by bringing his machine home in 17th place after the race was red-flagged a lap early due to an accident. The 17 year old Teessider missed out on his first ever Supersport points yet again by the narrowest of margins yet Robinson was happy with his progress:
“Paul is adapting all the time and he did some impressive laps during the race. His bike was better than mine this weekend and he’s proved that each time he sits on it, he improves. He just needs to keep this momentum going and he’ll be a lot stronger from now on. I’m really pleased with his performance” concluded Robinson.
Round four of the series takes place at Oulton Park in Cheshire on May Bank Holiday Monday.
