Snetterton Success

The Phil Burgan Race Academy (PBRA) enjoyed more success at the fifth round of the British Superbike Championship at Snetterton, with supported rider Jonathan Rea scoring two runner-up places behind his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari.

The talented Ulsterman capitalised on his front row grid position to remain at the head of the pack for the majority of both 22-lap races. His brace of second place finishes earn him a further 40 points to add his championship tally.

PBRA is committed to encouraging young British motorcycle racing stars of the future. As well as supporting Rea in the domestic Superbike series, the academy supports current World Superbike Championship leader James Toseland and 125GP title hopeful Kev Coghlan.

Rea has enjoyed a consistent year so far aboard the HM Plant Honda Racing CBR1000RR Fireblade. The 20-year-old rising Superbike star has achieved six podium finishes in the championship to date, but is hoping to clinch the elusive victory at the sixth round of the series at Mondello Park. Rea heads to Ireland in third place overall – just 41 points adrift of current leader Kiyonari.

Meanwhile, Coghlan narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the fifth round of the British 125GP class at Snetterton. The young Scottish rider finished fourth in the 16-lap race with a time of 20:04.326 – just 1.488s behind third-placed Luke Jones. Robbie Stewart was the eventual race victor. Michael Wilcox finished runner-up.

Coghlan’s result earns him another 13 points which maintains his second position in the overall standings. Coghlan’s UK1 Racing team-mate and fellow PBRA rider Deane Brown is hoping to return to the series within the next few weeks. The 14-year-old sustained a broken leg and wrist during round two at Thruxton.

Toseland’s next event takes place on domestic soil. The Isle of Man resident is looking to maintain his championship lead at the seventh round of the World Superbike series at Silverstone on 27 May.
