Byrne (R) & Crutchlow (L) looking to build on good start
British Superbike Championship leaders Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow are both talking themselves up ahead of the second round of the championship at Oulton Park this bank holiday weekend.
The pair, who shared victories in the opening two races of the season at Thruxton last week, sit level on points at the top of the table and have been talking about their desire to line up on the grid in Cheshire this weekend.
Byrne, who has made a blistering start to the season after joining Airwaves Ducati, said “I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing again.
“The season has started so well for me and I am really enjoying riding the Airwaves Ducati 1098R.
“Oulton Park is technically quite a challenging circuit but I achieved a podium there last year so I’m looking forward to continuing my run of good form, securing more championship points and hopefully extending my championship lead.
“I’ve had such a great week so not much could wipe the smile off my face right now.”
Oulton was recently voted as the best circuit on the British Superbikes calendar by a fan survey and for Cal Crutchlow, the venue also holds some happy memories.
The HM Plant Honda rider said “I like Oulton Park a lot. I’ve had numerous Supersport wins there and didn’t do too bad on the Suzuki last year as I was top five.
“Oulton is a real riders’ circuit, so we know that the likes of Shakey, Michael (Rutter) and Leon (Haslam) will go well there.
“I’m looking forward to carrying on the season in a similar position to where we are now and be up there for the rest of the year.”
