Byrne expected to wrap up title at Silverstone

Shane Byrne needs just a single top-ten finish to secure the British Superbike Championship this weekend at Silverstone.

The Airwaves Ducati rider has dominated the championship from start to finish this season and takes a 94-point lead into the weekend of the twelve round championship. Having scooped eight wins so far this season, the man known as ‘Shakey’ has only once failed to finish outside of the podium positions – that being a second-race retirement at Knockhill in round eight.

Surprisingly, Byrne has failed to win since his round six victory at Mallory Park back in June as the likes of Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam have forced their way into the reckoning but nevertheless, having missed the opportunity to wrap the championship up at Croft two weeks ago, the 31-year-old is fully expected to get the points that he needs to secure his second BSB title.

“I’m a bit disappointed not to have won the title in the previous round at Croft, but now I’m fully refreshed and heading to Silverstone where I have a very good chance of taking it, and that is what I and the rest of the Airwaves Ducati team have been working for.

“I like to be on maximum attack, riding on the limit, but I have to ensure that I don’t fall down and that I take the championship – it will be good to get the job done in the first race at Silverstone”
