Byrne Predicts Honda Revival At Snetterton

British Superbike Championship leader Shane Byrne feels that his dominant run may come to an end at Snetterton this weekend.

The Ducati rider, who has stormed to a 68-point lead in the BSB championship after just four rounds following six wins and two seconds, believes that Honda’s past record at Snetterton and an increase in weight for Ducati could open up the championship race.

Honda have secured double wins in the last two seasons at the Norfolk circuit – all of which courtesy of Japanese rider Ryuichi Kiyonari and Byrne feels that Cal Crutchlow and Leon Haslam could close the gap this weekend.

“I think Snetterton will be more difficult than the races we have had so far this season. However I am confident the Airwaves Ducati team will provide me with the best possible package and I know that I will do the best I possibly can so we will have to wait and see what happens.

Over the last few weeks I have had a pretty equal balance of training and relaxing. My Mum has come out to visit me and Petra and we have chilled out but I have also been cycling and down the gym lots so I am feeling pretty good.”

Teammate Leon Camier echoed Byrne’s reservations about this weekend, hinting that the Ducati lacks the top-end speed to get the better of their Honda rivals.

“I reckon we are going to find it quite tough this weekend; I think we may lack the speed needed for a circuit like Snetterton but I am still looking forward to getting there and giving it a good go.”
