Byrne Ready to Shake Up BSB Championship

Airwaves Ducati new boy Shane Byrne is confident that he can reclaim his 2003 British Superbike Championship title when he gets back on a Ducati bike this weekend.

The 31-year-old has made the switch from Stobart Honda to Airwaves Ducati in the off-season and has every reason to be confident of his chances for the upcoming season, which gets underway at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Byrne, also known as ‘Shakey’, won the 2003 title on the Ducati 998 and will be looking to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish in the BSB Championship.

Defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari and his Honda teammate Jonathon Rea now plying their trade on the WSB circuit, Byrne and teammate Leon Haslam are amongst the front runners for this season’s title.

And Byrne is more than happy with his prospects ahead of the new season.

“I am feeling really positive, the team has worked really well and everything has gone to plan,” said Byrne.

“We have worked through a number of things and we have taken some big steps forward with the Ducati 1098R. There are a few other things we need to work on at Brands Hatch but we have been consistently strong and the only unknown now is how we will match up against the competition at a race weekend!

“I personally feel as fit and strong as I can be and I am looking forward to getting going; the first round is going to be interesting for sure!”
