Camier continues BSB dominance

Young British Superbike hotshot, Leon Camier, has once again proven his strong hold on the 2009 championship, by taking race one victory at Cadwell Park this afternoon.

Having started on pole for the first of today’s two races, Camier lost out slightly at the start, allowing Stuart Easton to inherit the lead. Camier had to initially settle for second, while Simon Andrews held onto his third place start.

As the early stages of the race developed, Camier made his move on Easton, elevating him back to the front, from where he disappeared into the distance. Behind, Camier’s Airwaves Yamaha teammate, James Ellison had forced his way through the field from eighth on the grid to third.

With Camier nowhere to be seen, Easton was holding down the fort in second, trying to fend off a challenge from Ellison. With Ellison trying desparately to find a way past the Hydrex Honda of Easton, rookie Ian Lowry was right on the tail of Ellison’s Yamaha, in a battle that would see them through to the end of the race.

Further afield, Karl Muggeridge made up ground on his thirteenth place grid start, working his way through the action to take seventh after eighteen hard frought laps. Having started on the front row, John Laverty, on the Buildbase Kawasaki endured a difficult race, dropping back through the field to ninth. Karl Harris, after starting sixth on the grid, also experienced difficulties, which left his fifteenth at the chequered flag.

With the eighteen lap duration soon at an end, Camier soared past the chequered flag to seize his fifteenth triumph of the season. Easton secured second, just milimetres ahead of a persistant Ellison, while Lowry managed to hang onto the tail of both in fourth.

After losing out earlier on, Simon Andrews recovered from a race long tussle with teammate Julien Da Costa to take fifth, whith the latter crossing the line sixth. Karl Muggeridge worked his way through the seventh, ahead of Sylvain Guintoli, John Laverty and Mirror.co.uk Cup winner, Gary Mason.

Commenting on yet another victory, Camier said: “It’s going to plan and the Airwaves Yamaha is working absolutely awesome. The easy thing now is probably to get a bit carried away and get side-tracked but we’ve just got to keep focused and try and make sure the championship gets done.”

Second place Stuart Easton commented: “I just tried my best to hold my line and squeeze him out. I’ll be honest, that wasn’t the best I’ve ever rode that but I’m happy with my result, I split the Airwaves Yamaha’s and that’s not easy to do.”

Third place man, James Ellison, said:

“The problem was the part where I was quicker, the first part of the circuit, which is fast and flowing, I was quicker than him through the bends but down the straight his bike’s just got the legs, so all the work I did through the corners it just disappeared down the straight. The places where I was looking to pass I was having to line it up at the start of the straight rather than twenty-thirty yards before it so it was quite difficult to make a move. We were both trying 100% and with second place to fight for in the championship it’s going to be like this until the end hopefully.”

Mirror.co.uk Cup winner, Gary Mason, commented: ”I think the clutch was slipping throughout that race to be fair, but once I got on my own and got by Karl I got my head down and caught up Laverty and I think it was Walker, but it was too much too late. The Quay Garage Honda was working well.”
