Camier could miss rest of season

Camier could miss rest of season

Leon Camier’s season could be over after he was confirmed with a broken wrist after crashing out of qualifying at the weekend, forcing him to miss both of Sunday’s races.

Instead, Camier flew home to England for scans on his injury, which revealed a break in his scaphoid, which could rule him out for the rest of the season.

With two rounds of the season remaining and no chance for the Aprilia rider to mathematically finish higher than fourth, Camier could chose to sit out the rest of the season, rather than attempting to patch himself up and rush his recovery.

The 24-year-old’s manager, Andy Walker, said: “We will not rush into anything. We are fortunate to have a number of the world’s best specialists looking into Leon’s injury and we will wait to receive all of their recommendations before deciding on whether or not to proceed with surgery and if so, where.

“We want to give him the greatest amount of time to recover that we can so that he comes back stronger than ever.”

Meanwhile, Camier revealed that his future for 2011 is still undecided but he is likely to agree an extension to his current contract with Aprilia.

“I’ve had offers from manufacturers but at the minute staying with Aprilia for next season is the most likely, however nothing has been set in stone or agreed yet,” he claimed. “It would be good to stay with Aprilia and keep the consistency going into next year after the results we’ve had this season, but nothing is confirmed yet.”
