Camier eyeing final title push
Airwaves Yamaha could wrap up the British Superbike title at Cadwell Park this weekend, with Leon Camier’s triple victory at Brands Hatch putting him within touching distance of the rider’s championship.
Should Camier, 133.5 points ahead of teammate James Ellison and 156.5 points ahead of third placed Stuart Easton in the standings, score 21 more points than the best non-Airwaves Yamaha rider it would leave him to battle it out with Ellison for the title over the course of the remaining three rounds.
That would also mean that Camier could wrap up the championship two weeks later at Croft, ahead of the season finales at Silverstone and Oulton Park.
In truth, baring a minor miracle, Camier already has his hands on the title after what has been a record breaking season for the 23-year-old, having become the first rider to record 14 race wins in a BSB season – with five races of the season still to go.
And Camier, who doesn’t have the best record at Cadwell, is as determined as ever to wrap up the championship.
“This season has been incredible, and hopefully our good form will continue at Cadwell Park. I’d like to try and put my fall from a couple of years ago firmly behind me with some good results.
Camier was however mindful of Sylvain Guintoli’s return to action, with the Suzuki rider one of the main title challengers before his crash at Donington Park back in May.
“I expect Sylvain to be fast straightaway and I hope that he has two good races,” he added. ”He was going pretty strong before Donington Park and hopefully he will be able to up the pace, but this is a hard circuit for anyone and a very physical one.”
