Camier gets all clear for WSB ride
British Superbike Champion Leon Camier has received the all-clear to race with Aprilia this weekend at Magny-Cours.
The Airwaves Yamaha rider, who wrapped up the BSB championship last weekend at Silverstone, has received clearance to ride alongside Max Biaggi this weekend as a replacement for the injured Shinya Nakano.
Camier will also race for the team at the final round of the season at Portimao in what could be seen as a dress rehearsal for next season.
The Kent rider is widely expected to move to World Superbikes at the end of the season but has expressed his desire for a factory ride. With rides at the factory Yamaha and Honda teams now effectively taken, Aprilia, who have performed well in their first season back in WSB, could provide him with the ideal challenge.
“I would like to thank Aprilia for giving me such an amazing opportunity, and also GSE Racing for being so supportive,” said Camier. “This year has been incredible. To follow my BSB Championship win with a ride on-board a proven race winning machine in World Superbikes, is awesome. It’s going to be a tough challenge for sure. There’ll be no time for testing beforehand, and I’ve never ridden at Magny-Cours, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
