Camier not feeling title pressure

Leon Camier has insisted that the British Superbike Championship title will not be on his mind this weekend as he lines up on the grid at Silverstone.

Camier will win the championship this weekend if he finishes at least one place ahead of teammate and title rival James Ellison in either race at the Northamptonshire circuit, with the Airwaves Yamaha pair the only two riders remaining in contention for the BSB crown.

But Camier, who has clocked up a massive sixteen wins from 23 races compared to Ellison’s three, insists that he will be doing everything to keep the pressure off this weekend and focus purely on each race as it comes.

“I’m really looking forward to Silverstone,” he said. “In terms of the races, it’s just business as usual. I know what I need to do.

“I’ll prepare as normal, keep myself busy and not really think about the championship a whole lot. It won’t be easy but a good couple of results should hopefully go some way to thank everyone who has helped me this season.”

Ellison insisted that he will be pushing his teammate as hard as possible, but is also wary of the threat from further down the grid.

“I think we’re going to see some close racing this weekend, so it’ll be important for us to be at the top of the timesheets from first practice onwards,” he added.

“I’ve had a nightmare in qualifying recently, doing my fastest time in the second session rather than the third and it’ll be vital to get qualifying right at Silverstone.

“I’ll be pushing Leon as much as I can, but I can’t forget to keep an eye out for Stuart Easton who’ll be looking to snatch away second in the standings.”
