Camier overcomes pressure for pole
Leon Camier roars to another Roll for Pole victory, heading Airwaves Yamaha teammate James Ellison, ahead of tomorrow’s British Superbike double header at Silverstone.
After being pushed all session for the illusive pole position, Camier fought hard to head Ellsion by just 0.097 seconds. Championship leader, Camier, now heading the championship by almost one hundred points, is hoping to secure the BSB title this weekend, but now has to wait for tomorrow’s two races to see the outcome of his title charge.
Josh Brooks lines up alongside in third, with Stuart Easton fourth and Tommy Hill fifth. The remainder of the top ten was completed with John Laverty, Simon Andrews, Sylvain Guintoli, Julien Da Costa and Ian Lowry.
Commenting on his success, Camier said: “To be honest that was all a little bit hard work compared to some of the other qualifying sessions we have had this season! I thought after our session this morning that our lap times would have been quicker than they were and that was what I was hoping for. There is definitely pressure on me tomorrow and I know I have to push hard but be careful at the same time.
“James was pushing really hard in that session for the pole and there was so little in it then Josh upped his pace this afternoon too. I need to try and sort my starts out as tomorrow could be hard work otherwise. I can’t afford to drop too far back as the lap times are so close that I could lose time on the leading group, so I need to just get off the line and pace myself. James is the target for me as I need to finish in front of him to win the title, but I had a good race here last year so it looks good for tomorrow.”
