Camier secures seventh pole of season

British Superbikes superstar, Leon Camier, has once again demonstrated his dominant performance of 2009, by taking pole position ahead of Monday’s two races at Cadwell Park.

Despite his strong showing, Camier was given a run for his money in the Roll for Pole section of qualifying, with his rivals stepping up to challenge the 23 year-old. However, regardless of their best efforts Camier prevailed through a tough session to come out the otherside, complete with his seventh pole position of the season so far.

The Airwaves Yamaha rider admitted to feeling slightly uneasy about the Mountain section of the circuit, following his crash there in 2007, however he still aims to show his determination in both of tomorrow’s races.

Commenting on yet another pole position, Camier said: “This is a pretty special pole for me as I have had so much bad luck here in the past, especially after my big crash when I broke my leg and pelvis at the Mountain. As a result of that I feel that I needed to prove to myself that I could do it and that all that is behind me now for good. I am still riding a bit cautiously over the Mountain but I think if you are a bit slower there it doesn’t make too much of a difference.

“I need to get a good start tomorrow, which is not my strongest part of the race and I have done a couple of practice starts that have been ok, although that normally means that when I do it for real I mess it up! It is difficult here and I know that I need to be in the leading group in the last few laps. If I can’t win then I will have to accept it as I certainly don’t want to do anything crazy that could ruin the championship.”

John Laverty secured second spot, alongside Camier for Monday’s races, with Simon Andrews third and Stuart Easton fourth. Rookie, Ian Lowry managed to qualify fifth fastest, just ahead of Karl Harris and Sylvain Guintoli; while Camier’s teammate, James Ellison, Julien Da Costa and Chris Walker completed the top ten.
