Camier signs with Aprilia

Leon Camier has been confirmed as Max Biaggi’s partner at Aprilia for the 2010 World Superbike season.

The British Superbike champion, who rode as a wildcard with Aprilia in the final two rounds of the 2009 season, will take the ride vacated by the retired Shinya Nakano at the factory Aprilia team next year.

Speculation over Camier’s future has grown for much of the season, with the 22-year-old keen to secure a factory ride for the start of his WSB career. With no offer from Yamaha forthcoming, and GSE Racing’s hinted move to WSB unforthcoming, Camier has made the move that was widely expected and opted to ride the RSV4 in 2010.

Camier put in some strong performances on wildcard performances in WSB last year, notching up a top-six finish at Donington whilst riding for a BSB spec Airwaves Yamaha. Then, in rides for Aprilia in the final two rounds of the season, Camier claimed a 6th and 7th place finish in the season finale in Portugal.

The performance capped an outstanding year for Camier, who took the British Superbike Championship by storm in 2009, winning a record 18 races from 26.

“It’s an awesome move for me and the potential of the team is really good,” said Camier.
