Camier teams up with Stoner Down Under

Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier has been taking tips from former MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner as he prepares his assault on the British Superbikes Championship title.

Camier, who is good friends with the 2007 MotoGP champion from their days racing together in the British 125GP Championship, has been training in Australia with Stoner for most of the winter and believes that he is fitter and better prepared for the season ahead because of it.

Speaking to the British Superbikes website, Camier said: “At the moment I’m in Switzerland with Casey Stoner, mixing up my daily training regime with a bit of snowboarding here and there which has been cool, but it’s back to Australia soon where I’ll stay until testing starts. Training is always so much easier when you’ve got guaranteed good weather!”

“When I was over in Australia last winter with Casey I was still playing catch-up with my fitness levels and trying to get my leg back up to full strength, but what a difference a year makes! This year there’s no stopping me, we can really push each other. We’ve done endless amounts of cycling but it’s not been all hard work, we’ve tried a bit of archery, which I’m pretty good at I have to say, a bit of diving at the Great Barrier Reef, and also a bit of fishing.”

“I can’t wait to get testing underway on the new Airwaves Yamaha. Everyone at GSE Racing is so determined to take home a fifth Championship title; there’s a real buzz in the team and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”
