Camier to have stint with Aprilia WSB
British Superbike Champion Leon Camier will replace the injured Shinya Nakano for Aprilia for the remaining two rounds of the World Superbike Championship.
The Airwaves Yamaha rider, who wrapped up the BSB championship at Silverstone on Sunday, will ride for the Aprilia team alongside World Superbike veteran Max Biaggi this weekend at Magny-Cours and at the final round of the season three weeks later.
The 23-year-old is widely expected to announce a switch to World Superbikes in 2010 although he has so far yet to announce an agreement with any team currently in the championship. That has fuelled speculation that GSE Racing, the owners of Airwaves Yamaha, could themselves pull out of BSB for World Superbikes.
Camier has himself expressed his desire to ride for a factory team and the stint with Aprilia could signal that a more permanent deal is in the offing.
The Kent-born rider will take the role adopted by MotoGP-bound Marco Simoncelli at the weekend, who impressed on his showing on the Aprilia at Imola. The Italian recovered from a race one DNF to take a third place finish in race two in what was another strong performance from the Aprilia team, racing in their first season back in WSB.
