Capirossi eager to start Qatar test
Loris Capirossi is hoping that Suzuki can finally demonstrate that they have the ability to battle it out with the competition as they head for the final testing session in Qatar.
Capirossi and teammate Alvaro Bautista will get the opportunity to try out the new 2010 GSV-R engine under the floodlights in Doha in the final pre-season test before the season begins next month, hoping to build upon the team’s impressive showing in Sepang and finally demonstrate that they are more than just the “also rans” of MotoGP.
The Italian veteran has been critical of Suzuki in the past, with the team struggling to make any meaningful impression on the championship but with a new teammate alongside him and a new engine underneath him, Capirossi is hopeful that an intensive testing session can pay dividends this week.
“I am totally fired up for the next test; we have only had a few days on the bike this year so we need to get as much done as possible over the two days at Qatar,” said Capirossi. “We have a lot of testing to do on the engine, chassis, electronics, in fact almost everything. It will be very important to see how the bike is performing this year in changeable conditions, so as it gets colder at night in Qatar that should be a good test of how we stand at the moment.
“The GSV-R worked well in the hotter conditions in Malaysia, but this time out it will be very different and we will all be looking very closely at the data to see how things have changed since we last came to the desert.”
