Capirossi happy with Suzuki pace in Sepang

Loris Capirossi claimed that he was pleased with the progress of his Rizla Suzuki ahead of the 2010 season after posting the sixth fastest lap time of the three day test session in Sepang.

The Italian, who has voiced his frustration with the Suzuki’s lack of pace on a number of occasions, clocked a time of 2:02.102 on day two to give bosses at Suzuki something to build upon for 2010, with more parts for the GSV-R still due to arrive from Japan.

“I was quite happy with the lap-time and the consistent rhythm on the first day, because we know there is still a lot to come from the factory for this year’s bike,” said the veteran rider. “We were able to test two new chassis and we are now much clearer on our direction to improve more. I go to the Suzuki Factory before the next test, so I will be able to give some more direct feedback to the engineering group.”

But Capirossi knows from 2009 that fast times in pre-season do not necessarily translate into results during the season, with the Italian posting good lap times in Sepang twelve months ago before going on to have a disappointing year, and the 36-year-old is keen to ensure that nothing is left to chance in 2010.

“I got quite frustrated on the final day, because I always want to go quicker and the work was really detailed stuff – but we have to improve the bike so I have to do it,” he added. “I am excited for the next test to see what our guys can come up with, including the new engine spec, and I want to keep improving.”
