Corser believes BMW can challenge in 2010

Troy Corser believes that BMW can compete regularly for top five finishes in the 2010 World Superbike Championship.

BMW, who re-entered the WSB championship last season, had a tough year in the championship, as injuries and a lack of pace restricted them to just one best place fifth finish in the championship at Brno.

By contrast, fellow new boys Aprilia were able to claim eight podiums in 2009, including one victory, also at Brno

But Corser believes that the team have learned the lessons of that first year in the championship and that the German marque can challenge the major teams in 2010.

“The bike has come a long, long way,” said the Australian. “What we started with was about 70% ready to compete and now we are at 95% so I’m expecting a good year.

“Our expectations for next year are to be in the top five.

“We were in the top 10 for most of the season this season so that is a logical progression and one which we feel is achievable.

“Once we are running the top five then the difference between fifth and a podium finish can be less than a second so of course that would be the next step.”
