Corser expects big things from BMW
Troy Corser believes that BMW can mount a serious challenge in World Superbikes this season despite being in their first season in WSB.
BMW, known mostly for their efforts in Enduro competition, enter the 2009 World Championship and signalled their competitive ambitions early on with the signings of Ruben Xaus from Ster and former WSB champion Troy Corser to the factory line-up.
Testing results have given the BMW garage plenty to build on ahead of the opening race of the season on March 1, particularly given that the S1000RR has shown great promise in a straight line and Corser believes that the German marque can buck the trend of first-season struggles for debutant teams.
“I am particularly impressed with the power my BMW produces, which you certainly need at a fast and flowing circuit like Phillip Island, which has one of the highest average speeds of any race track in the world,” said the Australian.
“Also, chassis set-up is critical as you need a machine that will fight all the forces at play, including some ferocious winds that sometimes come off Bass Straight.
“That’s what I’ll be concentrating on this weekend and we’ll continue to work hard as a team.
“I’m confident we’ll be really competitive by the time Phillip Island comes around as it’s going to be a momentous occasion for BMW,” he added.
