Crutchlow delighted at memorable 2010

Cal Crutchlow declared 2010 to be a “fantastic” year as he claimed the rookie of the year award with a victory in the final round at Magny-Cours.

The Coventry-born rider marked his final WSB weekend before he moves to MotoGP with a race one victory in France, confirming fifth place in the championship, ahead of established WSB names including Noriyuki Haga, Michel Fabrizio and Yamaha teammate James Toseland.

Crutchlow also ran championship leader Max Biaggi close in the second race, narrowly missing out on a WSB double.

But Crutchlow was nonetheless delighted with his performance at the weekend and throughout 2010, claiming that his performance in France was a “thank-you” to the Yamaha team.

“It was two really close and enjoyable races,” he said. “All credit to Max, he rode really well. To have +0 on the board every lap is a big pressure so he did fantastically. He is the championship winner so to be battling with him at the end is good for me. Finishing fifth is not too bad,

“I’m Rookie of the Year as well. I came into the championship with high expectations, Yamaha has done a great job and I’m pleased with the end results. The team have been fantastic so I owe them all a big thank you along with all the sponsors and everyone that’s made it possible for us to go out there and give it our best this year.”
