De Puniet looking to impress in home GP

Randy de Puniet is hoping to put on a strong performance in his home Grand Prix this weekend as he looks to improve on his result two weeks ago in Jerez.

After a strong start to the season, which saw him finish sixth in the opening race in Qatar, the LCR Honda rider could only secure a ninth place finish in Spain in his last outing.

But de Puniet heads to Le Mans in confident mood, hoping to put on a show for his home supporters.

“This season I would like to have a good French GP because it’s important for me, for my fans and for my sponsors,” he explained. “A good result would be the same as the rest of the GPs – to be around the top eight. Obviously the podium would be fantastic, but I don’t want to speak about the podium just yet because it’s too early.

“Honda gave me the same base as the one they gave to the Repsol Honda riders, and this is a good point for us,” he added. “I don’t know yet if my bike is 100% the same as that of Dani (Pedrosa) and Andrea (Dovizioso), but my target is to fight to be the best privateer rider and to be around the top six often.”

“I am in good shape but I want to improve and to fight for the podium because I think that we have the chance to be there – not in all the races, but in some.”
