Donald signs Relentless deal
Australian rider Cameron Donald has given his Relentless Suzuki team a huge boost ahead of this weekend’s BSB event in Knockhill by signing a new contract for the 2009 season.
The Isle of Man TT double-winner put pen-to-paper earlier today and will ride the GSX-R1000 Relentless Suzuki Superstock machine this weekend at Knockhill and also at Cadwell Park before returning to Australia in early September.
The team have also confirmed that he will take in next week’s Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week before meeting up with the team in November to ride the Macau Grand Prix on a GSX-R1000 Relentless Suzuki Superbike.
Speaking about the new deal, Donald claimed that his time so far with the team had surpassed all expectations.
“Last year I felt very privileged and excited to be joining Relentless Suzuki,” he said. “It has been a fantastic experience and I have to be honest and say we have exceeded the results that I expected in my first year; I will be looking to build on that again in 2009.
“I have formed a great relationship with the team and our sponsors; I’ve also become very friendly with a lot of the crew. Philip and Hector have been great to work for and Philip’s input this season has really shown in my results.
“A big shout must also go to Relentless and Suzuki who have shown great enthusiasm, which really inspired me this season. Hopefully we can finish on a high with some top British Superstock results and a solid Ulster Grand Prix next week.”
Team Manager Phillip Neil was equally positive about the deal, hinting that the team had big plans for Donald in 2009.
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Cameron this year and to have achieved the success we have, makes all the hard work and long hours well worth it,” said Neil. “He has been a great ambassador not only for TAS Racing, but more so for Suzuki and Relentless.
“We are already looking forward to 2009 where Cameron will be joining us for a longer stay, as we plan to start pre-season testing that bit earlier with the all-new K9 GSX-R1000 Suzuki.
“Our main goals will again be to excel at the three international road races, but we have also planned a slightly ‘bigger’ BSB role for Cameron in 2009.”
