Dovi gets tattoo in tribute to Simoncelli
Andrea Dovizioso has revealed that he has got a new tattoo over the winter break, with a message to honour the late Marco Simoncelli.
The Tech 3 Yamaha rider, a close friend of Simoncelli, posted a picture of his new tattoo on Twitter last night.
The tattoo features the message “sono padrone del mio destino, ma solo il destino conosce la fine del cammino”, which translates as “I am master of my fate, but only fate knows the end of the road”.
Speaking on Twitter, Dovizioso explained: “After what happened, here is to Sic my thoughts in a Polynesian tattoo with the sun god (life), the frigate bird (destiny) and a gecko.”
Dovizioso and Simoncelli were often rivals on the track, graduating together through the MotoGP classes but despite the rivalry, Dovizioso admitted that the sudden loss of Simoncelli has been hard to come to terms with.
After snatching a career best third overall by finishing ahead of team-mate Dani Pedrosa in the 2011 MotoGP championship at the Valencia finale, the race after Simoncelli’s death, Dovizioso said:
“On the final lap I thought of Marco and in the end I succeeded here on a track where I have always struggled. Marco helped me in this challenging mission, Ciao Marco”.
