Ducati Offer Lorenzo Multi Million Deal
Jorge Lorenzo has reportedly received a £13 million pay offer to quit Yamaha and move to Ducati.
The deal on the table for Lorenzo is £13 million for a two year contract with Ducati which comes just as HRC announced that they will not be signing the 22 year old rider.
Ducati are currently in an unstable position, with endless speculation surrounding Casey Stoner’s mystery illness that has put him out of MotoGP until October at the earliest. As a result of this instability, it has been reported that they are keen to sign Lorenzo in a move that would see the rider switching from Yamaha to Ducati.
Doctors are currently studying Stoner’s condition in order to assess exactly the cause of his illness which has been ongoing for at least the past two months and causing him to pull out of at least the next three rounds.
With Stoner’s shock departure from the current rounds of the championship, uncertainty has been thrown over his future health and as a result, Marlborough will be keen to sign a top rider such as Lorenzo. If Lorenzo were to move, he may ride alongside Stoner next season or potentially replace him should Stoner’s health continue to cast doubt over his career next season.
Lorenzo has been guarded discussions over a potential move; he has erred on the side of caution and claimed that he will stay with Yamaha:
“Ducati is an option. The important is to have a bike that can win the championship. It seems the Yamaha is the best right now.”
Despite this caution it has been speculated that Lorenzo is seeking financial equality with Rossi, who earns 14 million euros in comparison to Lorenzo’s 2 million.
