Edwards approached over WSB switch
Colin Edwards could be in line for a move back to World Superbikes, with sources suggesting the ambitious BMW Motorrad team have offered him a two year deal.
BMW, who have taken on great strides in their second season in WSB under the leadership of former Ducati chief Davide Tardozzi, have reportedly approached the MotoGP veteran with a view to him finishing his career in World Superbikes.
The deal would see Edwards leave the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha team to replace the underperforming Ruben Xaus to partner Aussie Troy Corser, with BMW looking to utilise the Texan as part of a major sales push in North America.
The Yamaha WSB team have also been linked to Edwards, with a seat-swap with the Monster-sponsored Cal Crutchlow thought to be on the cards.
The outspoken Edwards, a two time World Superbike champion with Honda, has been unhappy with the performance of the Tech 3 bike in this season’s MotoGP championship and has hit out at team after failing to make the top six so far this campaign.
Edwards told MCN that he was being made to look like “a f*****g moron” on “last year’s” bike.
“[It's] the same bike as last year just with a slower engine,” he claimed. “I look like a f*****g moron.”
He added: “If Ben [Spies] had a bike that was worth a s**t, he’d be on the podium every weekend.”
