Espargaro undergoes successful arm op

Aleix Espargaro has undergone a successful operation to his left arm as he prepares himself for his first full season in MotoGP.

The Spaniard, who has been offered a full contract at Pramac Ducati after impressing as a stand-in for the absent Mika Kallio and injured Niccolo Canepa during 2009, went under the knife to correct the compartment syndrome that he suffered from, just four months after having similar surgery on his right forearm.

Compartment syndrome is a term that refers to the compression of nerves, blood vessels and muscle inside a closed space in the body.

The surgery was completed under local anaesthetic and Espargaro is expected to resume full training within the next few weeks, ahead of the first test in Sepang on Feb 3-5.

Espargaro became the youngest ever debutant in MotoGP when he deputised for Mika Kallio at Pramac Ducati during the 2009 Indianapolis Grand Prix.
