Fabrizio storms second day at Kyalami
Ducati rider Michel Fabrizio once again set the benchmark in the second day of testing, posting a World Superbike lap record at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa.
The Italian clocked a time of 1:40.256 seconds in hot conditions, one second beneath his day one time and more than four tenths of a second ahead of the next best time set by Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner.
The time was also 0.453 seconds faster than that of teammate Noriyuki Haga but surprisingly, the 23-year-old believed that he could have been even faster.
“I’m not entirely satisfied because I made a small mistake on my good lap, otherwise I’m convinced I could have got below the 1:40 mark,” he said.
Fourth place went to Northern Irishman Jonathan Rea of Hannspree Ten Kate Honda, runner-up in the 2008 World Supersport Championship whilst the other Brit to be present at the test, Tom Sykes, posted the 13th fastest time of the day after a shortened session.
Sykes’ Yamaha teammate Ben Spies failed to build on an excellent showing the day before, crashing out at turn six to end his participation and finish eighth. Carlos Checa and Rea also crashed during the test.
