Fabrizio to race at Brno GP

Michel Fabrizio will return to MotoGP this weekend in Brno as the Xerox Ducati rider stands in for Mika Kallio with the Pramac Ducati team.

The World Superbike Championship title contender will make a temporary return to MotoGP at Brno this weekend following Casey Stoner’s decision to withdraw from the forthcoming three rounds of the championship due to illness. The 24-year-old will take the ride vacated by Mika Kallio’s temporary step up to the factory Ducati team in Stoner’s absence.

It will be the Italian’s first appearance in MotoGP since 2007 when he stood in for the injured Gresini Honda rider Toni Elias at Sachsenring, finishing tenth. Prior to that, Fabrizio rode with the Harris-backed WCM team during the 2004 season, finishing 22nd in the championship and securing one top-ten finish in the process.

Fabrizio was available to the Pramac team due to the current summer break in the World Superbike Championship and the Xerox Ducati rider could also ride for the team in Indianapolis, although a date clash with the WSB round at the Nurburgring would rule him out of the San Marino GP.

“I want to thank Ducati and Pramac for this gift,” said Fabrizio. “Brno is my favourite track and therefore the right place to come back riding a MotoGP 800 after the last time at Sachsenring 2007.

“I know that I can’t expect a lot because the GP9 is much different compare to my 1198 F09. The priority is to have some fun and enjoy a different weekend for me! All the best to Casey, wishing him to be back in top form as soon as possible!”
