Haga fit for Brno return

Noriyuki Haga has confirmed that he will be racing at Brno this weekend although the championship leader conceded that he may not be 100% fit.

The Ducati rider crashed out in race two of the last World Superbikes round at Donington Park four weeks ago, allowing Yamaha’s Ben Spies to close the gap in the championship to just 14 points.

Fears were that the 34-year-old was suffering from a fractured vertebra although medical tests later saw the injuries downgraded to a fractured ulna and whilst Haga decided to miss the mid-season test in Imola last week, the injuries will not keep him out of this weekend’s round in the Czech Republic.

But Haga, who has failed to win in the last six races after a crash at Miller Park, has admitted that he is unlikely to be a full fitness in Brno and has played down talk of securing maximum points on Sunday.

“After the crash at Donington I’ve been doing a lot of physiotherapy in order to get back into shape as quickly as possible and in time for Brno,” said the Ducati Xerox rider. “It’s a pity I couldn’t take part in the Imola testing as that would have been very useful but it was just too soon and it’s more important to be fit to race.

“I’m not sure that my arm and shoulder will be 100% by the weekend but I’m confident I’ll be ready for the races and will fight to take as many points as possible.”
