Haslam searches for consistency in BMW

Leon Haslam claims that consistency will be the key this season as he looks to go one better than last year’s second place in the World Superbike Championship.

The Derbyshire rider led for much of the championship in 2010 before a series of poor results in the second half of the season saw him loose ground to Max Biaggi in the title race, with a retirement in Imola eventually handing the title to Biaggi on his home circuit.

And Haslam, now with BMW after moving from Suzuki, believes that consistency is vital if he is to improve on last year’s result and is confident that BMW has the right package to challenge for honours in 2011.

“After the winter tests, I am convinced that we will be competitive from the first race,” he told the Derbyshire Telegraph.

“We have every reason to be confident, not only about Australia but the entire season.

“We will see where we need to improve ourselves in comparison with our competitors but from a speed perspective we are competitive.

“So at Phillip Island, the most important thing will be to be consistent from the first session to the last lap of the race.

“If we manage that we should be able to post good results.

“My target is clear: I must win races. That is also the aim of the team. I am sure BMW will do everything possible to achieve that.”
