Hayden sorry for website gaffe

Nicky Hayden has apologised to Ducati after posting a picture of the new Desmosedici GP10 on his website before the official Ducati launch.

Hayden described himself as “like a kid” when he first saw Ducati’s 2010 championship contender and posted a photograph of the machine, taken with his mobile phone, on his official website more than two weeks ago.

The picture has since been removed and the American has admitted that the incident probably wasn’t looked upon favourably by the Ducati hierarchy.

“When I saw the bike I took a picture on my phone. I should have known better, I was like a kid,” said Hayden at Ducati’s official launch event in the Italian ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio.

“I just put a picture on my website. It probably got me in the doghouse a bit. It happens.”

Hayden however believes that the team can go on to have a fruitful 2010m despite the departure of team principal Livio Suppo, who has moved to Honda.

“I like the bike, while another off-season with the team will be a big help for me,” said the 28-year-old, who is in his second year at Ducati.

“Sure the bike is good and we have a strong package for 2010. There’s been a few changes in the team. With changes you have big opportunities.”

The 2006 world champion did however raise concerns over the enforced use of fewer engines this season, with the Ducati’s success in recent years partly due to the engine’s higher rev range.

“Six engines is not a lot for 18 races. I hope it saves some money but I’m not sure how much it is going to save because it takes a lot of development to make them last,” he said.
