Hayes flown in to replace Edwards

American superbike champion Josh Hayes will race for Tech 3 Yamaha in Valencia this weekend, replacing the injured Colin Edwards.

Edwards has been ruled out of the season finale at Valencia after sustaining cartilage damage around his left arm, requiring the American to undergo surgery.

Edwards, who leaves Tech 3 at the end of the season, will be replaced by 36-year-old Josh Hayes, who recently claimed his second successive American Superbike crown for the Monster Energy Graves Yamaha Team in a dramatic final round in New Jersey.

Hayes was originally due to travel to Valencia before news of Edwards’ injury to test the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 machine the day after Sunday’s final race.

Hayes will now join British rider Cal Crutchlow when practice for the Valencia round gets underway on Friday morning.
