Hickman picks up valuable points

BSB rider Peter Hickman is continually gathering points towards his championship charge in the Mirror.com Cup, which has allowed him to hang onto to second place in the series.

Following two strong podium finishes in round seven of the championship at Mallory Park, the 22 year-old overcame weekend-long difficulties to grasp a twelth and fourteenth place finish in race one and two, respectively.

The start of Hickman’s weekend was marred by technical problems, when his Ultimate Racing Yamaha R1 broke a crank during the practice session. As a result of this he was forced to take the only spare engine available to him, which was somewhat down on power compared to the rest of the field.

Having occupied eighteenth spot for the majority of the opening race, a multi-bike pile up, involving six of the leading riders, meant the red flag was thrown out. With twenty-two of the thirty laps completed the result was confirmed, giving Hickman twelth overall and third in the Cup.

The second race resulted in a fourteenth placed finish after heavy rain determined the race, with the chequered flag being thrown out at half distance.

Hickman now heads into the next round of the championship 44.5 points behind series leader Gary Mason, with the next round of BSB at Brands Hatch on 9 August.
