Hill edges into early lead in BSB standings
There may have been a whole world of buzz around Shane Byrne’s win in the opening race of the season this past weekend, but it’s Tommy Hill who is sitting pretty at the top of the standings, elbowing his way to an early lead in the new BSB season.
Hill finished second at Brands Hatch, after earlier being forced into the gravel and onto the grass to avoid crashing into his teammate Michael Laverty but managed to claw his way back to victory in the second race.
After suffering a prior elbow injury the week before ht race, at testing at Snetterton, Hill is looking to repeat his successful performance this weekend at Oulton Park, and stay ahead in the rankings. The 26-year-old Swan Yamaha rider is looking to recover from his dashed title hopes last season, which saw his bike catching fire.
Hill had this to say about his hopes for the next race: “Last week I was concerned about my elbow and I had a lot of treatment throughout the week to be ready which has paid off. It is fantastic to be leading the championship but it is only round one and it is early days still.
“The bike has been working well and we couldn’t have asked for a better start today. We are now looking forward to Oulton Park and getting the bike to work around what is a completely different track. Hopefully we can get there and come away with a very similar result.”
Hill currently leads the overall standings with 45 points, and is joined by Shane Byrne( 41), Stuart Easton (23), Ryuichi Kiyonari (20), Michael Rutter (19) in the top 5.
