Hodgson returns to BSB
Former British and World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson is to return to British Superbikes after signing a deal with Rob Mac Motorpoint Yamaha for 2010.
Hodgson, winner of the British Superbike championship in 2003 and World Superbike champion in 2003, returns to BSB after five years in the American AMA championship.
Hodgson returns to Britain after a difficult time in AMA, which saw him miss three rounds of the season with a collapsed lung following a motocross accident.
But the 35-year-old is fit and ready for the challenge ahead and is looking forward to the new season.
“I’ve got a lot of passion in me and I know Rob does too,” he told MCN. “The only reason I’m back racing in BSB next year is to win the championship. I want to win the title for myself and for Rob’s team. They’ve put a lot of hard work in over the years and deserve some reward for that. I hope we can be successful and all have big smiles on our faces. The best thing is that Rob genuinely wanted me for his team. Every other team played it far too cool, even though I was totally honest about what I was looking for from the deal. But the biggest thing is that it was my decision to go with Rob. My call totally – and that’s how I wanted it to be.
“And you know, I remember when I signed for GSE Racing in 1998. Back then they’d not really made their mark and people reckoned I’d made a major mistake. But I had a good feeling about the team and went with them. And look how it panned out (BSB title in 2000 and WSB opening that led to 2003 title with the factory team). I’ve got that same good feeling having signed for Rob’s team. I know people will look at the recent past and say I’ve made a bad call. I just want to go out and prove them wrong!”
